Day By Day Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arusha – Tarangire National Park (160 km – 3 to 4 hours)

After an early pick-up from your hotel in Arusha at 8:00 am, you’ll embark on a scenic drive to Tarangire National Park, known for its striking landscapes, including granite ridges, expansive marshlands, and iconic giant baobab trees.

Upon arrival, enjoy a picnic lunch followed by an afternoon game drive through the park. Tarangire, covering 2,600 square kilometers, is especially stunning during the dry season when herds of wildebeest, zebra, eland, and impala gather around the Tarangire River. The park is also famous for its elephant herds and is home to unique dry-country antelope like the fringe-eared oryx and the long-necked gerenuk.

Predators such as lion, leopard, cheetah, caracal, and the elusive honey badger roam the park, and you’ll also find over 500 bird species, including eagles, falcons, and owls. After a thrilling day, enjoy dinner on an open deck, with a view over the African bush, and overnight at a camp or lodge.

  • Day 2: Tarangire National Park – Serengeti National Park (300 km – 5 to 6 hours)

After breakfast, you’ll head towards the world-famous Serengeti National Park. The drive includes a picnic lunch and a scenic journey along the Ngorongoro Crater rim through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where you may see the red-robed Maasai people living traditionally amidst the wildlife.

Continue northwest to Serengeti, meaning “endless plains” in Maasai, one of Africa’s largest and most iconic wilderness areas. You’ll arrive in time for dinner at your lodge or tented camp located in the Seronera Valley, renowned for its abundant wildlife, especially big cats.

  • Day 3: Full Day in Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, embark on a full day of game drives in the Serengeti. The park is home to herbivores like giraffe, gazelles, waterbuck, topi, and eland. You’ll also encounter lion prides, cheetahs, and hippos basking in the pools. Depending on the time of year, you may witness the annual wildebeest migration, one of the most awe-inspiring natural events, as two million animals move between the Serengeti and Maasai Mara.

For an unforgettable experience, you can opt for an optional hot air balloon safari ($599 per person), offering a serene view of the plains as the sun rises and wildlife awakens. After an exciting day of exploration, return to your camp/lodge for dinner and a restful overnight stay.

  • Day 4: Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Conservation Area (160 km – 3 to 4 hours)

After breakfast, depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, home to the world’s largest caldera. On the way, you can stop at the Olduvai Gorge (extra fee) to explore one of the most important archaeological sites for early human fossils.

Once in the Ngorongoro Crater, you’ll descend into the caldera for a picnic lunch while observing the diverse wildlife. The crater, often called “the Garden of Eden,” is home to over 20,000 large mammals, including black rhinos, lions, leopards, hyenas, and jackals. After a thrilling exploration, you’ll ascend to the crater rim and head to your lodge/camp, where you can enjoy the magnificent sunset.

  • Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater – Lake Manyara National Park (64 km – 1 to 2 hours)

After breakfast, you’ll head to Lake Manyara National Park, located in the Great Rift Valley. The park covers 330 square kilometers, with 200 square kilometers of the park being covered by a soda lake. Here, you’ll find a variety of wildlife, including elephants, buffalo, giraffes, and impalas, along with the famous tree-climbing lions.

The lake attracts over 400 species of birds, including flamingos, pelicans, storks, and cormorants. After an exciting afternoon game drive, return to your camp/lodge for dinner and overnight.

  • Day 6: Lake Manyara National Park – Arusha (130 km – 3 to 4 hours)

Start your final day with a morning game drive in Lake Manyara National Park to observe the park’s abundant wildlife one last time. Afterward, return to your lodge/camp for a final lunch where you can reflect on the remarkable wildlife experiences of your safari.

After lunch, it’s time for your leisurely drive back to Arusha, where your driver will drop you off at your hotel or the airport for your onward travel.
