Embark on a thrilling 5-day adventure through the majestic landscapes of Mount Kenya, following the iconic Sirimon to Chogoria route. This trek offers an unforgettable journey through lush forests, alpine meadows, and rugged terrain, culminating in a sunrise summit experience at the renowned Lenana Point. Start with a scenic drive from Nairobi to Sirimon Gate, then ascend through Old Moses Camp, Shipton Camp, and the Austrian Hut. Experience awe-inspiring views, wildlife sightings, and challenging hikes along the way. On Day 4, reach the summit at Lenana Point (4,985 meters) for breathtaking panoramic views before descending to Bandas Camp and Chogoria Gate. This adventure blends natural beauty, physical challenge, and cultural immersion, offering an exceptional Mount Kenya experience.
Your epic adventure begins with an early pickup from your hotel, residence, or Nairobi Airport at 7:30 AM. From here, we’ll head north, traveling through the heart of the Kenyan countryside, offering glimpses of local life as we approach the majestic Mount Kenya.
We’ll make a brief stop in Nanyuki, where you can enjoy a cup of traditional Kenyan tea while your guide finalizes the hiking preparations. Then, it’s onward to the Sirimon Gate of Mount Kenya National Park. Here, you’ll enjoy a hot lunch while your guide handles the necessary park fees and permits.
After lunch, your ascent begins! You’ll embark on a scenic two to three-hour hike through rolling grasslands and rocky outcrops, gradually making your way to the Old Moses Camp, situated at an elevation of 3,300 meters. The camp, surrounded by sweeping mountain views, offers a perfect spot to unwind in the evening and enjoy a cozy dinner.
Rise early at 6:30 AM to begin your exhilarating hike to Shipton Camp. After a hot breakfast and a cup of freshly brewed coffee or tea, you’ll set off along the Sirimon track, passing through the spectacular Liki North Valley. This picturesque valley is framed by the towering peaks of Teleki and Sendeyo, remnants of the ancient volcano. The ascent continues as you climb to an altitude of 3,990 meters.
From here, you’ll hike to MacKinders Valley, where you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain range. Stop for a cliffside picnic lunch, soaking in panoramic vistas of the various hills and peaks of Mount Kenya, including the summit you’ll be aiming for.
After your lunch break, the final leg of the hike takes you to Shipton Camp at 4,200 meters. Here, your crew will greet you with hot tea or coffee. You’ll have some time to acclimatize to the altitude before a hearty dinner is served at the camp. Prepare for chilly temperatures that can dip below ten degrees Celsius at night.
Today starts with a relaxed wake-up call at 7:30 AM. Enjoy a hearty breakfast before you pack your bag and head out at 9 AM. This day focuses on acclimatization and soaking in the remarkable scenery of Mount Kenya. As you trek along, keep an eye out for majestic birds of prey soaring above and other wildlife in the area.
Your hike takes you around the summit in a clockwise direction, passing Simba Col and Simba Tarn, before reaching Austrian Hut. At this point, you’ve reached your destination for the day. After lunch, take the opportunity to relax and prepare for the challenging ascent to the peak the next day.
As night falls, enjoy a filling dinner and settle into your hut, knowing that the next day’s adventure awaits.
Rise before dawn to begin your final ascent to the summit of Mount Kenya. A light breakfast of tea or coffee and biscuits will give you the energy you need for the trek ahead.
The climb to Point Lenana (4,985 meters) takes about an hour. This is the highest point you’ll reach, and the views are absolutely stunning. If you’re lucky, you might see Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Elgon, and even the Indian Ocean on a clear day. As the sun rises over the horizon, take time to marvel at the beauty of the surrounding landscape and capture some breathtaking photos.
After soaking in the sunrise, it’s time to begin your descent. A two-hour walk takes you down to Mintos Hut, where a cooked breakfast awaits you.
The final stretch takes you further down to Bandas Camp. This final leg is much easier than the climb, and it’s the perfect time to relax and reflect on your incredible journey. At Bandas Camp, enjoy a well-deserved dinner and rest in the comfortable wooden huts.
After a restful night, enjoy a leisurely breakfast at 7 AM before continuing your descent. Today’s hike is relatively short, with a final 10 km walk through forests teeming with wildlife, from mammals to birds.
As you exit the park, your driver will be waiting at the base of Mount Kenya to transport you to the town of Chogoria. Before heading back to Nairobi, we’ll stop in a local town for a traditional Kenyan lunch to celebrate the completion of your incredible hike.
The journey back to Nairobi takes around 4 to 5 hours. You’ll arrive in the late afternoon and be dropped off at your hotel, residence, or the airport, marking the end of your Mount Kenya hiking adventure.

I just completed my 4-day trip to Mount Kenya and I’m very satisfied with all the services provided. I received excellent assistance throughout the entire process, from start to finish. I would strongly recommend choosing them if you’re planning a trip to Kenya—I would definitely choose them again if I return.Posted on Ajith Vasudevan2025.03.03.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. After screening and talking to about 5 travel operators, I decided to go with Nature Romp for an 8 day safari in Kenya, in Feb 2025. Their rate was competitive and selection of lodges to stay very good. Initially I was skeptical due to less reviews about Nature Romp in public domain. However when I talked to Yvonne, I understood that theirs is a fairly new company and I decided to go with them. We (my daughter and I) opted for a private tour covering Masai Mara, Nakuru and Amboseli. We were received at the Nairobi airport and the next day early morning Yvonne, Lucy and Maxwell (guide cum driver) welcomed us at the hotel, prior to starting the safari. We instantly felt at home and from then onwards it was a positive experience all the time. Our guide Maxwell is an excellent guide. He knew about birds and animals, their behavior and diligent in driving (safe driving). He was always on time. If i had to do anything differently, its only about selecting the stay option at one place (Naivasha). Although the accommodation was very good, it was pretty far from the National park. Drawing the route map and time to take to this palace would have helped me giving an additional 4 hours for bird photography. Thank you Yvonne and Maxwell. I surely plan to do another safari with Nature Romp in 2026Posted on Charles Otieno2024.11.26.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. initially asked for 3 quotations for my 7-days safari in Kenya (Masai Mara-Amboseli-Nakuru-Naivasha). All 3 tours companies replied me right away but Ms Yvonne Ateka from Nature Romp Safaris was by far the most outstanding and patient in answering dozens of my questions concerning visa, safety, accommodation, preparation, etc… She was also extremely flexible in helping me changing my safari schedule due to my unexpected 2-days delay at transit airport New Delhi. The entire tour was fascinating!!! It was the very best trip I’ve ever had (I’ve travelled 30+ countries so far)! Kenyan nature and wildlife is breathtakingly beautiful even more than I’ve imagined before… Freddy was very caring, knowledgeable and a super offroad driver. Thank you so much again Yvonne & Freddy for making my trip in Kenya a great experience! I would wholeheartedly recommend you guys for all my friends travelling to you amazing country!Posted on Paola2024.03.09.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
